Nine Arch Bridge

Folklore & Legends

Locals believe that a Sri Lankan craftsman completed the bridge using stone and brick after the British abandoned the project during World War I.

According to folklore, the bridge was built by a local man, P.K. Appuhami, who used an ancient Sri Lankan stone-laying technique. Many say that when the British doubted its strength, he stood underneath as a train crossed to prove its stability
