Nine Arch Bridge

Hidden amidst lush green tea fields and misty hills, the Nine Arch Bridge is a colonial-era engineering wonder. Built entirely of brick, stone, and cement without a single piece of steel, it has stood the test of time and remains one of Sri Lanka’s most photographed spots.

Experience the Magic:

  • Watch the train cross the famous bridge, a picture-perfect moment.

  • Walk along the tracks for a breathtaking view of the surrounding jungle and tea plantations.

Folklore & Legends

Locals believe that a Sri Lankan craftsman completed the bridge using stone and brick after the British abandoned the project during World War I.

According to folklore, the bridge was built by a local man, P.K. Appuhami, who used an ancient Sri Lankan stone-laying technique. Many say that when the British doubted its strength, he stood underneath as a train crossed to prove its stability
