Our Story & Family

Villa Nivartana, Purana Ayurveda, and Nivartana were founded by Lakshani, a Sri Lankan entrepreneur living in Germany. Having migrated to Europe at the age of 16, she always felt a deep connection to her homeland. In 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, she established Nivartana—a company that supports local farmers and artisans by exporting organic spices and handmade products to Europe.

Her passion for holistic well-being and sustainable tourism led her to expand her vision in 2024, launching Villa Nivartana and Purana Ayurveda in her hometown, Bentota. This is a family-run retreat, where each team member is part of her extended family, ensuring an experience of warmth, authenticity, and personal care.

Our passion for travel and tourism is deeply rooted in family history and legacy. The inspiration to create Nivartana Travels & Tours comes from Lakshani’s grandmother, Udage Kankanange Emilda Punyavath, a pioneering entrepreneur in Bentota, who was among the first to establish a tour company in the region. Watching her grandmother lead with vision and passion, Lakshani was motivated to continue her legacy and create a travel company that honors her family’s deep connection to Sri Lankan tourism.

Tourism has been a part of our family for over 40 years, and today, Nivartana Travels & Tours is carried forward by Lakshani’s relatives in Bentota, ensuring that guests experience Sri Lanka in its most authentic, immersive, and memorable way.

Purana Ayurveda –Authentic Sri Lankan Healing in Germany & Sri Lanka

Purana Ayurveda is a key part of Nivartana’s mission, offering a holistic approach to well-being that is deeply rooted in Sri Lanka’s ancient healing traditions. Lakshani’s journey into Ayurveda was shaped by life experiences that led her toward holistic healing—a field completely different from her original career. Through years of learning and personal practice, she developed Purana Ayurveda, now operating both in Germany and Sri Lanka.

Purana Ayurveda specializes in Hela Wedakama (Desheeya Wedakama), the ancient Indigenous Sri Lankan Ayurvedic system, which dates back over 5,000 years. Unlike general Ayurveda, Hela Wedakama is uniquely Sri Lankan and uses only native herbs and remedies found exclusively in Sri Lanka. To ensure authenticity, Lakshani collaborates with highly experienced Ayurvedic doctors in Sri Lanka, whose knowledge has been passed down through generations of traditional healers.
